This will seriously brighten up your Friday

The aurora borealis could be illuminating the sky above the United Kingdom tonight after 2 massive explosions on the sun were observed yesterday. These Coronial Mass Ejections [CMEs] send huge numbers of magnetic particles towards our planet which produce mesmerising patterns of green, blue, pink and yellow in the night sky.

While these CMEs are incredibly violent there’s no need to worry. Any potentially harmful radiation cannot pass through the Earth’s atmosphere. The one side affect may be disruption to communications.

We say this might be the perfect opportunity for a date / evening out with no mobile phones to distract you, and a beautiful light show from the Heavens.

For the best view possible, experts recommend avoiding light pollution as much as possible.
