A New Service for single Christians

PRESS RELEASE – January 2000

A budding young Christian in Birmingham has just launched a new service for single Christians to help them meet other single Christians in their local area.

Katharine Gray, who attends St. Johns Church in Harborne has established friendsfirst to meet the needs of single Christians who may feel isolated from other single Christians.  For a small membership fee, members are circulated other members personal profiles, and members can then contact each other either using a box number system, or by telephone if they’ve opted to provide their telephone number. friendsfirst has choice as its central theme.  As an informal and pressure free service members choose who to contact, when to contact them and how. It’s an effective, easy, popular and successful way to meet other Christians and the interest in the service has already been amazing.

One of the early members commented “There’s a real gap in the market for this type of service for Christians and friendsfirst offers a completely non-threatening way to meet new people.  I’m very excited by the possibilities it provides.”

Commenting on the name, Katharine said that most people know that good solid friendships are at the heart of any good and meaningful relationships and that is what friendsfirst is all about facilitating and promoting.

The service has the support of vicars from different denominations and others such as the philosopher and theologian Elaine Storkey.  Many ministers have commented that they would really welcome a service like friendsfirst that offers something practical for single.  People’s working lives are so much more hectic and pressurised now, such that more and more people are using introduction agencies to meet like minded people.  And for Christians its the same.
