I have avidly read all the Harry Potter books and really love them. Although there is quite a lot of witchcraft and the like I think that good and evil is well protrayed in a way in which children and adults alike can understand - infact far better than is often preached in our churches. Also the fact that so many children (and adults) have been introduced to the realities of evil can only be a good thing. It provides a good platform for us Christians to work from in terms of talking to others about our faith. So all in all I think the Harry Potter books are a good thing. Whether the associated merchandising etc is a good thing is another matter.

i quite agree with you sarah. people get so offended so easily but i dont see any harm in these films at all. linda

Yes, I think the books were really great reads for children - and actually got children reading books again! I know the books contain witchcraft, but they don't portray evil as a good thing.
The problem with a lot of christians criticising the books is they have never actually read them and you can't have an informed conversation with a non-christian if you haven't read the books.
In my humble opinion the Phillip Pullman series of books are far more dangerous, since the author admits to being anti God.
