In Ronald Rolheisers article 'Extraordinary women, extraordinary stories' which friends1st pointed us towards in their latest newsletter, one of the main tenants of the article was a quote by a women saying:-"we are happy only when we are grateful for what we have because then, and only then, will what we have be enough for us. Her perennial counsel was: It's enough!"

I thoroughly agree and really like this philosophy on life. It's good to be happy with what we've got. However it did set me thinking. Does this sort of philosophy mean one should not strive to move on in life, eg seek a promotion at work, aim to become a better person, try to develop new skills etc. One could use her philosophy to adopt a fatalistic view in life - ie what one has, one has and be happy with that.
What does anyone else think?
