At the event itself
When you arrive at the Imperial suite for the speed dating, you will be given
a speed dating card. You’ll then go to your allocated location and
be given your seat. Once everyone is seated the fun will begin!
When the event begins you will have approximately 3 minutes to chat to the person sitting next to you. It’s not long so try to come with a few pre-prepared questions.
After 3 minutes your ‘date’ will end and everyone will have a moment to (discreetly!) write their impressions of the person they’ve been talking to on their dating card. Most importantly this is the time to decide whether you’d like a chance to continue the conversation later on! The guys will then all be asked to move to the next girl in their group and the next 3 minutes speed date will begin.
And so it will continue for the next hour or so.
Sounds scary? Sounds intriguing? Sounds exhausting? Well, yes it is all of these things, but that’s what makes it fun! And if you’re worried that you’ll be so nervous on the day that it might prevent you making that all-important first impression – relax! Everyone is in the same boat and you will find you soon get into it. Before you know it, the conversation will be flowing and your ‘dates’ will be whizzing by all too fast. And fear not, there’ll be a break half way through so there will be a chance to get your breath back!
It is vitally important that you keep hold of your dating card and keep it in a safe place until you get home. If you lose this, you won’t be able to track the people you’ve met when you log back onto our site to see who has matched with you.
Once you get home, log on again to the CRE website and click on to the speed dating section. Here you’ll be able to search for each of the people you met (again using their unique ID) and put down your matches (i.e. whether you’d like to keep in touch) against them.
Where both you and one of your dates have put down a favourable impression of each other (and this could be either for friendship or perhaps a further date), then their email address will be revealed to you and yours to them. You will then be able to get back in touch with your matches via email, carry on the conversation and, if you wish, arrange to meet up again.
