Widows and widowers given St. Valentines encouragement Widows and widowers are being supported to find love again, by a new guide, released to co-incide with the celebration of St. Valentine’s day.
The 26 page guide, illustrated professionally with humorous cartoons, addresses all the issues people who have lost a spouse face when looking to meet a new life partner.
“Many people think St. Valentine’s day is the preserve of young single people in their 20s or 30s” said Katharine Gray, the Director of friendsfirst, who are publishing the guide “but people in their 60s and 70s are just as likely to be looking for love and companionship.”
“Widows and widowers often secretly long to be in another relationship but, after coming to terms with their bereavement, they find there are all sorts of other issues to deal with when looking to meet new people with a view to another relationship”
The guide covers common feelings and issues they face, like guilt and intense loneliness, to knowing if they are ready to move on, to actually getting out and meeting new people, as well as dealing with a new relationship.
Katharine Gray, the director of friendsfirst said:-“We already know this guide is going to be very popular and welcomed by many people. 21% of our members are widows and widows and although this group of people tend to be hugely successful in terms of remarriage, many of them face significant issues in finding a new soul mate. Significantly they often feel they are the only ones facing the issues they do, but in fact these issues are very common to them all and discovering other people feel the same way can be hugely encouraging.”
The guide which is entitled ‘Looking for love a second time round – a guide to making new friends and relationships for widows and widowers’ is available from friendsfirst Publishing.
