There’s no recession when it comes to love
A LEADING Christian friendship and dating agency shows that not everything is depressed in the current economic climate.
Recession, depression and the credit crunch may be filling our newspapers and televisions but there are some businesses that are thriving and one area in particular that is showing great signs of growth, is the business of love.
friendsfirst, the UK’s largest off line friendship agency for Christians looking for love and friendship, have seen their membership numbers increase over the last year and the numbers of engagements and marriages go up as well.
Katharine Gray, the founder and Director of friendsfirst, married herself after 8 years of running the organisation said “Although many people are finding these economic times very difficult, people are definitely reprioritising their lives, and relationships are coming out on top. People realise what is really important to them – and if they are single, there’s certainly more enthusiasm now to do something about it.
Of the 55 marriages and 8 engagement’s currently on friendsfirst’s books, nearly 20% of these have happened in the past 8 months. September 2009 is due to be their busiest month on record with 10 people getting married.
“There is no pattern to the marriages and engagements we’ve seen recently” commented Katharine. The couples have been from all over the country, of all age groups, and of different professions. Not all of them are working or professionals – some out of work or retired, whilst others hold down busy jobs. It just seems that people are much more serious at the moment about sorting out their personal situations. In these hard times, people want and need love and support and they know that facing life as a couple is a lot easier than facing it as a single person.
