friendsfirst holiday to the Isle of Wight

9th-15th September 2006

Our singles holiday this year took 26 people to St Rhadagunds on the Isle of Wight. Many of them went for the first time and perhaps did not know what to expect. They went from all parts of the country, from as far away as Wigan and Llanelli and encompassed a large age range from people in their 20s up to people in their 80s. There was a very able leader for the week, Diane Horsley, who was very quickly able to put people at ease from the moment of welcoming them into the house with a hot drink and a cheery hello. From this point onwards the spirit of fellowship grew rapidly, with people keen to join in with the planned walks, games and devotions. In the Hour of Fellowship on Sunday evening some guests gave moving personal testimonies that set the tone for the week, with each daily devotion time, and particularly the midweek evening meeting being wholly spirit-filled. The week was great fun, especially the outings to the Needles, incorporating a trip on the open-top bus, and to Osborne House. A special highlight was the ballroom dancing evening (see photos below) when everybody learnt two classic ballroom steps under instruction from two of the guests who happened to be very skilled. On leaving, most commented on how much they had enjoyed the holiday and that their expectations had been far exceeded.

Quotes taken directly from the Guest Questionnaires completed by guests in the Singles Holiday week:

“The highlights for me were the outings on the open top bus to the Needles, also to Osborne House and the theatre trip”

“It feels more like staying at someone’s home than at a hotel”

“ I felt as though I was part of a lovely family”

“I was unsure of what to expect from the holiday, but it’s turned out to be far above expectation.”
