We are often asked how successful friendsfirst is?

If you judge success by the number of marriages we've had then we are very successful. And if you add in the numbers of people making new friends (which is what some people join for) then it's even better

friendsfirst's News

We don't want to bombard you with emails!
We all know what it's like to have our inbox filled with unwanted emails. And we certainly don't want to be perpetrators of this. We now send out two newsletters - one directed primarily for people who are interested in our organisation but who haven't joined us - and one for members (this one). Some of the material is duplicated - some isn't - but if you are getting both and are finding this a nuisance, please use the safe unsubscribe button at the bottom of any newsletter email from us and you'll be able to come off that list.

Information in Profiles - Have your say
We've been having discussions with a few members about whether the profiles you receive of other members should include people's ages or not. Since many profiles now have photographs, and many members (especially women) say they act and feel a lot younger than their biological age, we wonder if providing the age really matters. We sense that some people may judge other members purely on the basis of their age - and then as a result miss out meeting someone who could be just right for them. So now we'd like your view. Please click this link which will take you to a very short survey so you can let us know what your opinion on the mattter is. We will publish the results in our next newsletter and make our decision taking into account your feedback.

Extended / Lifetime membership
We started an extended / lifetime membership scheme for members over the age of 70 about a year ago now and it's been a great success. We now have decided to widen this to all age groups. The way it works is that you pay a one off additional fee to us (which varies depending on your age) and then that's it for life. Once you are an extended / lifetime member you stay on our books forever (unless you ask to come off of course) which has all the benefits of keeping your membership going until you find the person or friends you are looking for - without having to keep renewing your membership (and paying the renewal fee) every year. Quite a few of our extended / lifetime members have married each other and definitely would not have met had they not had this membership. If you'd be interested in this option for yourself, please do call us and we can tell you what it would cost you.

Christian Dating online - do you know what you are getting into?

Did you know that the majority of Christian dating sites on the Internet, including most of the largest and well-known sites, are owned by secular companies, many of whom operate other dating sites catering to such groups interested in pornography, casual sex, swingers, and adulterers?  Shocking but all too true. We've found a website detailing all these dirty tricks and which sites to avoid if you are thinking of going down that route.  Click here to read all about it.

Fearing rejection - how to get over it!

Some people fear contacting others because they are worried about having to 'let them down' or 'reject them' if they don't think they want to pursue a friendship with them. But if you think carefully about it, this way of thinking is very shoddy, and at worst can lead to many missed opportunities.

When you join a friendship or dating organisation, the whole point is to meet lots and lots of different people. It's only in meeting lots of different people that you are going to substantially increase your chances of finding and meeting someone special.

But if you are so worried about how you'll cope if you don't like someone, and how you'll tell them this, then you're likely to be seriously affecting your enthusiasm for contacting anyone! In the rest of this article we show you how to get over this common problem - enabling you to contact more people and not be worried about what you will do should you not be keen to develop the friendship further.

Overcoming shyness!

Many people we talk to tell us they feel nervous about meeting new people and generally feel quite shy in social situations. Actually this is a reality for MOST people - it's just that some people have mastered their shyness better than others. If you are single and looking to meet new people - whether at work, at church or socially - being shy is a real hindrance. There are some great articles on the web about how to overcome shyness and if you're in this situation, then it'd be good to read some of them. One such article to get you started can be read by clicking here. Put into practice what is advised and I'm sure you'll soon see a difference.
What is NEW on our Discussion Boards?

What do you think about being single in today's church. There are lots of comments about this issue on our Discussion Forums. Click here to read them and how about adding your own - or if this issue isn't the most pertinent to you, do add something to any other forum - or perhaps start your own if there's a topic close to your heart.
