Another couple have got engaged. Ruth and Clive from Wales rang us recently with their happy news and their marriage will be soon. We are thrilled for them.
 
Busy but just not meeing the right people?

Hailey was outgoing and active. She was meeting lots of people but very few of the right age.

Chris - a busy music teacher - knew he was keen to be in a relationship but the truth was he was giving precious little time to meeting other people.

Whatever your age - are you holding out for Mr or Miss Perfect? It's a very common thing to do but could leave you single for a lot longer than you'd like. We came across an article recently in The Sunday Times and thought it was extremely thought provoking. Titled 'Settle for less', subtitled 'If you want a family, find a man and marry him. Don't waste time waiting for the one, says 40 year old singleton Laurie Gottlier.' The principles apply whatever your age. Click here to read it in full.
 
Commitment - food for thought

Do you know this poem by the German poet Goethe? It's very inspiring for many different life situations. I hope you find it useful.

Until one is committed,
there is hesitancy,
the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative and creation,
there is one elementary truth
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans.

Getting Serious about getting married - Rethinking the gift of singleness

You've probably heard us talk before about Debbie Maken's book Getting Serious about getting married: Rethinking the gift of singleness.  It's a truly thought-provoking and radically challenging book on the views that many single people, many churches and many vicars have on singleness in the church today. We highly recommend reading it if you are single or have anything to do with any single people - whatever their age.
