We are often asked how successful friendsfirst is?

If you judge success by the number of marriages we've had then we are very successful. And if you add in the numbers of people making new friends (which is what some people join for) then it's even better

Dear Katharine,

Hi, welcome to our 9th Newsletter, especially for our friendsfirst members. As ever there's lots of food for thought in this newsletter which I hope you will find useful.

Your feedback is really welcome. We had lots of it after the last newsletter and were glad to hear that the articles we recommended were so appreciated.

With best wishes,

Isle of Wight holiday 2009

The singles holiday we put on in conjunction with St. Rhadagunds was a huge success by all accounts. We've had some really great feedback about it and it seems like it was probably the best one to date (it was our fourth there!), and not just because 2 people got engaged! We had an equal mix of men and women and lots of new friends were made; everyone appreciated how the activities laid on really helped people to mix and make friends. Don't worry if you missed it this year. We're arranging it for next year and if you want to get in early, you can always book now. For more details, click here.

More engagements and marriages
We hope you don't get bored or frustrated by our continual news about couples getting together. We tell you because we want to encourage you rather than to blow our own trumpet. People who join us (perhaps doubting it'd ever happen for them) often find their greatest dreams coming true - and if they do, you can too.   We've now had over 60 couples tie the knot through us, with 3 more couples getting married soon. Of course not all the couples have wanted their stories published but those that have really are heart warming. The latest person to tell us of his engagement, told us how encouraging he'd found the stories about our couples on our website. He'd been amazed at how every story was so unique - and of course when you think about it, you really wouldn't expect anything else. If you haven't had a look at these stories recently, then do spend a bit of time reading them - I'm sure they will encourage you. Click here to read them.
Keep your love life going in the recession

There are few of us who aren't having to tighten our belts in these current times. Perhaps one of the first things we cut from our regular spending is going out to do something, including eating out. If that's what you've had to do perhaps it's left you feeling that 'dating' is no longer an option. Don't worry help is at hand. You can still keep making new friends and dating. All it takes is a little change of thinking - a little imagination and creativity.

What is love?

Many people believe love is a sensation (based on physical and emotional attraction) that magically, spontaneously generates when Mr or Miss Right appears. Erich Fromm, in his famous treatise "The Art of Loving," noted the sad consequence of this misconception: "There is hardly any activity, any enterprise, which is started with such tremendous hopes and expectations, and yet, which fails so regularly, as love."

For some with this 'misconception', waiting for Mr or Miss Right can therefore take a lifetime and sometimes, as a result, never happen at all. But it shouldn't be like that, and the reason it is, like so many things in life, is because of our 'wrong' thinking. Love isn't about a sensation - it isn't about finding someone whose profile jumps out at you making you think: 'This must be the one' - rather it's about a way of thinking about others.

We found this really good article about this and it certainly will get you thinking. Apply it to yourself and see if your thinking is holding you back from finding Mr or Miss Right. Click here to read it in full.

friendsfirst membership levels - are you on the right one for you?

Like most things we do, we spent a long time considering how to structure our membership, and how best to offer our different levels of service. New potential members are often asking us which is the best membership to join on. There's never one straight answer as it all depends on each person's unique circumstances and a number of different factors.

Each level is different and there are advantages and 'disadvantages' to each. It's worth being aware of these, and making sure that you are on the best level for your own circumstances. To make this easier, we've written a guide to each membership level, which you'll find on our website. To read it, click here. And if you want to make any changes to your membership, do call us on 0121  427 1286 - we'll be delighted to help you in any way we can.

That's all for now,

We look forward to speaking to you soon,

With best wishes
Patricia
